Carpets

For starters, I would recommend that you don't use a lot of carpet. You can only leave it by the bed, as it gets very dirty quickly. If you do want to use carpet, make sure you use a different floor in the entry area because those areas can easily get dirty or just be unsanitary. I would also recommend keeping it away from the kitchen and only using it in the bedroom. Either way, if you plan on using the carpet, you should know that it needs to be cleaned all the time, and you may even need to use a professional from time to time, you can use Greeley Carpet Cleaning if you are in the Colorado area, they have cleaned my carpet before and it was fine.
